Abstract

196,653. Elverson, A. J. H. Dec. 23, 1921. Leakage, preventing.-A lift valve particularly adapted for use in internalcombustion engines has the spindle provided with a series of split metallic packing rings. In the form shown, two pairs of rings 4 are arranged in grooves in the valve stem and a:re adapted to slide in a guide 3 provided with helical lubricating grooves 5 filled with graphite or the like. The packing rings may be housed in the guide and the lubricating groove formed in the valve spindle.
