Limbs, artificial. - Relates to artificial feet of the type wherein resilient buffers are employed to control the motion about the ankle joint and consists in the employment of a flexible spring- controlled fore part in such a foot. A plate 1, adapted to be secured to the artificial leg or to a bucket for the stump, is hinged to a lower member 5 by means of a pin 7 passing through lugs 4, 6 projecting from the opposing faces of the hinged members and mounted in ball-bearings 8. Springs 9, 12 are placed between the hinged members, and are arranged in pairs in front of and behind the hinge, and being secured at each end may act both in tension and compression. To the lower member 5 is attached a leather sole plate 15, which may be stiffened at the instep by a reinforcing piece 23, and to which is connected, near the toe end, either one or two springs 17 normally in compression against the plate 1, but acting in tension if the toe-piece should be bent downwardly, although if desired auxiliary tension-springs may be employed to pull the toe-piece upwards. Metal plates 20, 22 prevent chafing of the leather by the springs 17 and a strap 21 retains these springs in a bent position. A toe cap 24 is attached to the sole piece and bears against a cover piece 25 also attached to the sole, preventing a too easy upward bending of the foot. To facilitate the insertion of the foot into a boot or shoe the whole is covered by a leather slipper 26.
