Abstract

Cleaning internally, non-rotary appliances for. -An apparatus for cleaning the interior of pipes. and tubes comprises a chain of cutter holders 18, 12 each having two cutters only mounted in it, the successive cutter holders being connected together by intermediate links 11, so constructed that the cutters of successive holders are offset to one another at equal angles so that they operate upon different parts of the pipe. The connecting links 11, may be in the form shown in Fig. 4, with the lugs offset at en to one another to interengage with the ends of the lugs, which in this case are in the same plane. In cleaning a very long pipe length, one end of a cable is passed through a hole bored in the pipe at a convenient position, and is attached to one end of a flexible shaft passed up the pipe from one end or through a hole bored in the pipe, and is pulled through the pipe by withdrawing the shaft. The other end of the. cable is attached to a cable introduced by similar means into the pipe, and the cable carrying at one end 26 a chain of cutter holders is drawn by a winch through the pipe. By attaching a cable 27 at the other end of the chain, the cutters may be reciprocated through the pipe. Finally, a. brush is attached to one end of the cable and is drawn through the pipe which is then flushed out with water.
