This invention relates to new and useful improvements in pumps, the principal object being to provide a pump for conduits especially designed to handle muddy and sandy water without the loss of suction due to scored or otherwise worn parts.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a fragmentary side elevational view showing the pump.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View fragmentarily showing the structure depicted in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a side elevational view of the rotary tube.
Figure 5 is a side elevational view of the tube without the pulley.
Figure 6 is a side elevational view of one of the packing boxes.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view through one end of the pump tube.
Figure 8 is an end elevational view of the pump assembly.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numorals 5, 5 denote end portions of hose sections, each of which has a. flanged nipple 6 which is adapted to be connected to the improved pump structure generally referred to by numeral l, by an internally threaded collar 8.
The pump 'I consists of a pair of packing boxes each consisting of a sleeve 9 having threaded end portions I0, I0 over one of which is disposed the corresponding internally threaded collar 8, while an internally threaded collar II is disposed over the other end and contains a packing element I 2. Lubricant cups I3 are carried by the sleeves 9 for delivering lubricant to the area b-etween the sleeves 9 and the end portions of an elongated tube I4 which is rotatably mounted and adapted to rotate within the sleeves 9. As can be seen in Figure 2, the sleeves 9 are spaced longitudinally apart so that the intermediate portion of the tube I4 is exposed and secured to this portion of the tube I 4 is a pulley I5 over which a drive belt I6 is trained.
Inside of the tube I4 is an elongated screw II 2 which is welded or otherwise secured at its ends as at I8 to the end portions of the tube I 4.
It can now be seen, that when the Ibelt I6 is driving the tube Ill, water is pulled from one hose 5 to the other by the action of the rotating screw Il'. Thus it can be seen, that the presence of sand or other foreign matter in the water will have no eiect on the operation of the screw.
Suitable supports I9, I9 mounted on a suitable base 20 are provided with clamp structures 2| for embracing the sleeves 9 in holding the parts definitely in the position shown in Figure 2.
While the foregoing specication sets forth the invention in specic terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the claimed as new is:
A conduit pump comprising a pair o-f conduit ends, a pump structure interposed between the conduit ends, said pump structure consisting of a rotary tube of uniform diameter from end to end thereof provided with a screw therein extending from end to end of the same, packing means at each end of the tube and drive means at the intermediate central portion of the tube, said conduit ends being secured to the packing means and a pair of stationarily mounted sleeves upon opposite sides of the drive means in which the ends of said tubes are journaled, said packing means being secured to said sleeves.
