Abstract

195,793. Whitehorn, H. K. Jan. 17, 1922. Hydrostatic apparatus.-Apparatus for weighing trucks &c. or for measuring other weights or forces comprises means for measuring the deflecticn produced by the load in a supported slab by measuring displacement of fluid from a closed space below the slab. A hollow steel casting with thick base and sides and a thinner top is filled with oil g and communicates with a pressure gauge f preferably calibrated to read in tons and cwts. The top of the casting may be applied by welding and is strong enough to sustain the maximum load when within its elastic limit. The materials of the apparatus and the contained fluid may be selected to minimize changes of pressure due to temperature variations. For convenience in driving the vehicle into position, the apparatus may be formed with slopes m which may be hinged. The normal pressure of the fluid may be higher or lower than atmospheric. In weighing a vehicle the wheels are preferably supported simultaneously each on one of the above described devices.
