Cutting and making panels and tubes; hardening wood by compression.- A material solid at ordinary temperatures and more or less insoluble in water, such as resin, is applied molten to wood before or during the application of pressure. The material is allowed to solidify before the pressure is removed. Patterns may be impressed on the wood or on sheet metal attached by the filling before the filling solidifies. Tubes may be made by superficial impregnation of wooden cylinders which are then locked in a mould and bored by tapered mandrels. Inlaid products are obtained by pressing a design into the surface of impregnated wood, filling in the design with wood of another colour or with sawdust mixed with the filling material and pressing and heating the whole.
