Abstract

195,122. Brown, R. S. Nov. 21, 1921. Frictionally-seated lids.-A container having a lid or cover of the " slip on " type is provided with means for facilitating the removal of the same by means of a turning movement applied by a spanner bar, brush &c., or by means of a blow applied to the bottom of the container. The means may comprise indentations f, f<1>, &c., Fig. 2, in the lid, adapted to be engaged by a suitable turning implement indicated by dotted lines; or if the indentations are of sufficient depth, a blow applied to the bottom of the container and thus communicated to them may suffice to loosen the lid. In place of, or in addition to, indentations, raised pips g, g<1>, &c., may be formed on the lid, adapted for engagement by a turning implement as indicated in Fig. 3, and if pegs A of wood &c. are inserted in these, a blow on the bottom may again suffice to loosen the cover. The pips and indentations &c. may be equally well applied to the bottom of the container or to both lid and bottom, and the projecting and recessed parts are formed of corresponding dimensions to facilitate " stacking " of the containers. Fig. 5 shows a container the cover of which has a groove f, f<1>, formed in it, pips and indentations of the kind referred to above being shown also. The central indentation in the container bottom is surmounted bv a piece of steel piping reaching to the underside of the cover, so that a blow applied to the bottom may be transmitted upwardly to loosen the cover.
