Abstract

195,112. Pitt, W. P. Oct. 21, 1921. Locking-followers; covers.-In a loose-leaf binder of the type comprising a pair of post-carrying members, Fig. 7, adjustably secured together by pairs of sliding members which become locked automatically against outward movement, the locking means consists of a friction member or cam 19 mounted upon one of the sliding members and adapted to engage the other sliding member by friction. The sliding members 10, 11 are provided with channel portions 14, 15 which fit over the horizontal parts of the members 1, 2, after the latter have been covered with binding material, and are secured thereto by punching indenta. tions from the channel portions into holes 17 in the members 1, 2. Telescopic posts 3, 4 are attached to the members 1, 2. Grooves 13 are provided on the member 11, in which flanges 12 on the member 10 are adapted to slide. The friction member 19 is pivoted by a pin 18 to the member 11 and is provided with a finger-piece 21 by means of which it can be moved so as to engage frictionally with one of the flanges 12 on the member 10 so that any tendency to outward movement of the members 10, 11 would increase the jamming action. A spring 23 secured to the member 11 holds the member 19 in either of its extreme positions, and a turned-in portion 24 of one of the flanges 12 prevents complete separation of the members 10, 11 by engaging the point 20 of the member 19 and forcing it into the locking position. Each cover 7 is provided with an arcuate groove 26, Fig. 13, at its inner edge in which a tube 27 is secured by the binding material 28. A hinge-pin 6 passes through the tube 27 and barrels 5 on the members 1, 2.
