Stanchions.-A stanchion for supporting a rail C is furnished at its lower end with a flat face D reinforced at its back by a web E terminating in a heel G. The side rail W of the platform, gangway, &c. engages with a claw L on the stanchions and the opposite edge of the rail is gripped by a similar claw 0 on a washer M secured on the threaded end of the stanchion by a nut J and provided with a sole N co-operating with the heel G.
