Abstract

194,340. Bardt, H. Oct. 10, 1921. Peroxides of lead and manganese, obtaining; electrodes; preparing surfaces.-A solution of perchlorate of manganese or of lead or a mixture of both containing a great excess of free percholoric acid is electrolysed using an anode of a conducting substance inert to perchloric acid; peroxide of manganese or of lead or a mixture of both is deposited on the anode which is then used as an electrode in other electrolytic processes. The solution may be prepared by dissolving 90 gms. of lead oxide in 1 litre of 20 per cent perchloric acid. The anode may be of ferrosilicon or magnetic oxide of iron and the cathode of copper or lead plates. A current density of 0.3 to 0.5 amps. per sq. decimetre of anode is used at first after a compact uniform and thin layer deposited is raised to 2.5 to 3 amps. to produce a honeycombed strueture of the deposit.
