Abstract
194,329. Midgley, A. H. Sept. 10, 1921. Switches, locking; flexible-pull actuation; handles.-In electric switches for the electric circuits of motor vehicles, a key n operates the ignition circuit by means of a contact bridge o, and a handle k the lighting and starting circuits, the former by a contact bridge i and the latter either directly or indirectly through a Bowden or like wire l. The key n operates a barrel lock m so that the switch o is rendered inoperative until unlocked, and locking means are provided to prevent movement of the handle k to a different position unless the lock m is open. These means comprise a pin or bolt x engaging a series of recesses u containing balls w in a sleeve t of the handle k. This pin x is locked until the key is inserted in the lock m and rotated to bring the recess z into the position shown in Fig. 2, where the pin can ride over the parts between the recesses u when the handle is rotated. A groove v in the part r of the handle similarly prevents axial movement of the handle to actuate the starting switch.
