Abstract

Magnetic blow - outs f o r switches, lightning-arresters and potential-limiters are characterized by the establishment across an annular electrode of a radial magnetic field which drives the arc in a circle round the electrode. Fig. 1 shows the annular contact F of a switch; the other contact may be similar and is mounted below it. The radial magnetic field is set up by an electromagnet G having concentric poles C and D, and drives any are formed between the contacts, round in a circle. The action of the electromagnet G on either a similar electro-magnet or an armature on the other contact may be used to reinforce contact. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also arcing horns as shown in Fig. 2 (Cancelled). The horns I are partialLy surrounded by iron shields H which become magnetized by the current rising in the horns and so create a magnetic field across the surface of the horns I. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
