Abstract
194,215. White, A. E., (New Process Multi-Castings Co.). June 13, 1922. Patterns; moulding processes; moulds.-Matched pattern plates are made from a single pattern bv the following sequence of steps. The pattern is mounted on a board 2, Fig. 2, and backed with a plaster material 3. Side-pieces 5, Fig. 2, are built up round the pattern, plaster material 6 is filled in and a board 4 added. The board 4 and material 6 are removed and a sand mould is made above the pattern. After inversion, the board 2 and material 3 are removed and a sand mould 12, Fig. 5, is made above the previously-made sand mould 9. The mould parts are separated and the pattern 1 is removed. A mould is made from the mould part 12 and the board 4 and material 6 with interposed fusible metal strips 17, Fig. 6, having bevelled edges, on three sides. Similar metal is poured in through the open side to unite with the strips 17 and form the pattern plate 15, Fig. 8. The other pattern plate is cast similarly between the moulds 9 and 3. Mould materials.-The plaster material is preferably a mixture of finely-powdered carbon, plaster of paris, and sawdust.
