Abstract
194,052. McNutt, W. A. Jan. 6, 1922. Refrigerating, compression machines for. -The flow of liquefied gas from the condenser to the evaporator is controlled automatically according to the amount of unevaporated refrigerant collected in a chamber at the discharge end of the evaporator. The mixture of vapour and liquid from the evaporator enters a collecting-charnber 9 through a passage 25. The liquid may pass back to the evaporator through a passage 26 leading to the inlet pipe 16, while the vapour is withdrawn by the compressor through an opening 27. A float 18 in the chamber is attached to the stem 4 of the valve 2 controlling the flow of refrigerant from the condenser outlet 14 through a port 6 to the evaporator inlet 16. The extent of opening of the valve is controlled by an adjustable stop 22. The apparatus is especially applicable to machines wherein ethyl-chloride is employed.
