Abstract

192,806. Cachemaille, A. S., (Westing- house Lamp Co.). Nov. 15, 1921. Regulation, automatic systems and apparatus for; systems depending on the use of static transformers.-The voltage of an alternating-current load circuit is regulated or the percentage voltage variactions of the load circuit increased over that in the supply circuit by means of a boosting transformer operating in conjunction with an electron discharge device or devices. The load circuit 6, 6, Fig. 1, is fed from a supply circuit 5. 5<1> through a transformer 9. The secondary winding 11 of the transformer 9 is connected to the filaments 15 of two electron discharge devices 13, 14, through an adjustable resistance 17 so that variations of voltage of the supply circuit 5, 5<1> vary the temperatures of the filaments 15. The secondary winding 12 of the transformer 9 is connected in series with the secondary winding 21 of a transformer 20 across the load circuit 6, 6. The primary windings 18, 19 of the transformer 20 are connected in series with the devices 13, 14 respectively and in accordance with the connections of the winding 21 the variations of voltage induced in this winding are arranged to assist or oppose those induced in the winding 12 in accordance with the variations of plate currents of the devices 13 and 14. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, an electron discharge device with one filament 28 and two plates 29, 30 is employed.
