Abstract

192.639. White, A. E., (Rose, J. E.). March 29, 1922. Teeth, artificial. - Relates to teeth wherein a gold &c. crown is faced with porcelain &c., shaped and coloured to simulate a natural tooth. According to the invention a gold crown is first made for the prepared tooth 10 and the front wall of this crown is then cut out, as shown in perspective in Fig. 11 leaving an opening 11. The crown is placed on the tooth, and the opening 11 filled with warm plastic wax 12. Fig. 3. The porcelain facing 13, Fig. 4, is pressed into position and then removed so as to leave an impression of its rear face on the front face of the wax 12. The crown is then removed from the tooth, ploced in a mould, the wax melted out and gold run in to fill the space left by the wax. In this way a crown is prepared having the rear surface of its front wall accurately fitting the rear face of the porcelain front. The porcelain facing 13 is finally cemented on to the front face of the crown and the crown is cemented on to the tooth. Fig. 8 shows the complete crown with the porcelain facing 13 cemented on to the cast front wall 23 of the metal portion. The adhesion of the facing 13 may be increased by grooving the tooth to be crowned as shown at 24
