BLANK OR UNIT FOR MAKING DENTAL PLATES Filed May 15, 1934 3 W3 I j fi I lLL/AMA. Vo/aT Patented Get. 9 19 34 iJiTED STTES PATEN trier;
BLANK OR UNIT FOR MAKING DENTAL PLATE 2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in blank or unit for making a dental plate, which in dentistry is the mounting or denture which carries the teeth.
5 One object of my invention is the provision of a blank or unit for making or produc ng a dental plate which will be made of a suitable material having the exterior appearance of the healthy gum to provide an attractive and beautiful plate or mounting for the teeth.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a blank or unit for making or producing a dental plate or mounting which under the necessary pressure and heat will become soft or pliable and conform to and become the substitute of the Wax pattern or impression and receive the teeth to produce a most satisfactory mounting and present a very attractive exterior appearance.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a blank or unit for making or producing a dental plate which will be shaped toconform to the general fit of the mold and take the place or become the substitute of the original wax impression or pattern as to the location of the teeth and also the roof of the mouth in order to produce a perfectly fitting denture.
Another object of my invention is the production of a blank or unit for making or producing a plate which will meet every requisite of such an article in a most practical and efiicient manner and which may be produced at the proper price to fill the demand for such a denture.
With these objects in view my invention consists of blank or unit for making or producing a dental plate or mounting embodying novel features of construction and arrangement of its parts, substantially as described and claimed and as shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the blank or unit for making the dental plate or mounting constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention.
Figure 2 represents a longitudinal sectional view of the blank or unit for producing the plate or mounting, and
Figure 3 represents a transverse sectional view taken at a right angle to Figure 2.
The blank or unit A which produces the plate or mounting, is of the desired size and is made of a suitable material to have the exterior appearance of the healthy gum, and in general outline the plate is of rectangular form with flat upper and lower faces and, having the pair of bevelled edges B, the bevelled angular corners C,
and the bevelled straight edge D, while from the edge opposite said straight edge 13, the face or" the plate is formed with the recess E.
In the manufacture of the dental plate from my blank or unit, the wax pattern or impression is placed between the mold sections and the investment material is allowed to harden to form the mold sections. The mold is then subjected to heat to remove the Wax, and the blank or unit is then placed upon the section of the mold containing the teeth, and the mold with the blank or unit is placed in a vulcanizer or heater under the influence of a press, and said blank or unit in its proper relation is subjected to the pressure exerted by the press and in the presence of the necessary degree of heat the blank or unit becomes soft and the bevelled edges position with ease to receive the teeth While the recess by reason of thinning the wall of the plate produces a perfect fit to the roof of the mouth-and thus the construction of the plate produces a perfect plate or mounting for the teeth. It will thus be noted that the blank or unit is adapted to become the substitute for the Wax pattern or impression and when removed from the mold a perfect denture or plate is produced. The blank or unit is made of any of the suitable materials used for making dental plates, such as hard rubber, or like material, which is colored to resemble the healthy gum.
I have found from many years experience as a manufacturer of dental plates that this blank or unit produces a plate which is highly efiicient and practical and persons skilled in the construction of dental plates will readily understand and appreciate the advantages of my improvements.
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a blank or unit for making a dental plate having upper and lower flat faces and a surrounding bevelled edge and having a recess extending inwardly from one edge.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a blank or unit for making a dental plate, having a surrounding bevelled edge, having two of its corners angled or cut away and having a recess extending inwardly from one of its edges.
WILLIAM A. VOIGT.
