Abstract

192,576. Vulcan Motor & Engineering Co. (1906), Ltd., and Wardman, C. B. Jan. 7,1922. Hoods and opening tops. -An all-weather body for a motor vehicle comprises a non-collapsable rear quarter pivoted to the vehicle and carrying a roll-up canopy, canopy rails detachably secured thereto and extending to the wind-screen, and windows fitting between the rails and the body sides. The non-collapsable canopy B is housed in a recess A<2> behind the rear seats, the walls A<4> at the top of the .recess being free at their front ends and provided with rubber strips to give a watertight joint. The pivots of the segmental canopy B pass through slots in the walls A<4> and the canopy is moved slightly to the rear after raising to allow a tongue B<5>, Fig. 4, thereon to engage between a moulding A<9> and the back rail A<10>. The side rails D are attached to the canopy B by dove-tails. and a screwed stud having a nut and locking tongue. The rails D may be housed behind the step valance A<11>. The canopy C is normally rolled up at the front of the canopy B. Bows C<2> may be provided, supported by telescopic sticks A<12>. The windows may slide in the body sides or be removable and housed in a case A<13>. The door windows may slide side-ways, part of the inside door channel being omitted to allow the doors to open when the windows have been so moved. The pivotal studs for the canopy B may alternatively be carried by pivoted links with limited travel.
