Abstract
191,770. Schepeler, H. A. Aug. 16, 1921. Bronzing and the like.-In a process for coating metal wires with metal, lac, &c. by spraying, the wire, as it passes the spray, is oscillated about its longitudinal axis, the axis of the winding-off and winding-on spools remaining unchanged in position. When the wire is to be coated with fibrous substances, agglutinant may be sprayed on the wire before, or at the same time as the fibrous material is sprayed on. The wires 11 are preferably treated in a double row, as shown in Figs. 4 and 7, the wires in the two rows travelling in opposite directions past the spraying apparatus 24. The wires may be oscillated on their longitudinal axis bv apparatus as shown in Fig. 1, in which a series of bars 10, pivoted to standards 2, 3, project between the wires and are pressed into contact with them by a spring-pressed roller 13. The standards 2, 3. which are mounted on a slide 1, are caused to reciprocate towards and awav from each other, the bars 10 thereby effecting the oscillation of the wires, which pass through holes in guide blocks 22, Fig. 7, and are thus maintained in correct position relatively to the spray. In modified apparatus, each wire psases through a rotatable bush 28, Fig. 8. fitted with internal springs 31 which grip the wire sufficiently to cause it to turn with the bush, or with pulleys 33. Fig. 12, over which the wire is led in a zigzag path. Each bush 28 is fitted with spur teeth 30, and all the bushes are oscillated from a common reciprocating toothed rack or an oscillating spur wheel with which they engage.
