Abstract

191,738. Liese, H. [Firm of]. Jan. 10, 1922, [Convention date]. Ventilating mines.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises a description of apparatus for regulating a gas to a predetermined pressure or specific gravity, or for the regulation of the ventilation gases in a mine, or for controlling the carbonic acid content of the smoke gases of a fire. A tank is supplied with water through a pipe 2, Fig. 1, (Cancelled), the water overflowing at a partition 3 to discharge orifices 18. A cover 11 has depending partitions 12 forming spaces above the water level, to which gases may be introduced by pipes 16, 17. The spaces are fitted with open-ended tubes 4, 5 which slide through the bottom of the tank and are bent at the lower end to form a water seal. The tubes rest on cams 10, 19 on the shafts 9, 13 of water wheels 8, 15. The pipe 6, leading from one orifice 18, and the tube 4 discharge on to opposite sides of the water wheel 8, while the pipe 7 and tube 5 discharge similarly to opposite sides of the water wheel 15. In the state of balance, the levels of water in the spaces are such that onefcurth of the supply is discharged at each of the pipes 6, 7 and tubes 4, 5. The shafts 9, 13 are fitted with pointers the positions of which correspond with the position of the tubes 4, 5 and hence with the pressures in the spaces. In another form the movement of a water wheel operates a throttle valve in a pipe thus regulating the pressure. In the form adapted for use in mines, a tank has several spaces each in communication with one of the various levels of the mine, and the tank is fitted with glass peep-holes by means of which water levels may be observed. The overflow pipes from the spaces cause the operation of safety devices when the water stands at certain levels. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Specification 163,015, [Class 106 (ii), Dynamometers &c.] is referred to.
