Abstract

191,645. Sobawa, J. Feb. 28, 1922. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Ellipsographs.-In instruments of the kind in which a pen &c. is guided by a string fixed at two points constituting the foci of the ellipse, the pointed shank 3 is formed on a rod 2 which can slide within a tube 1 on which is slidably mounted a sleeve 5 carrying the shank 7. The ends of the string 12 are passed up within the shank 7 and thence around a drum 10 secured to the sleeve 5, so that by rotating the drum the effective length of the string is varied. To prevent the string from slipping it may be inserted in the groove between two washers 23, 24, Fig. 7, mounted on the shank and pressed together by a spring 26. In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the tube 18 is slidably mounted in a member 16 having a hollow extension 17 pivoted in a member 15 forming part of the tube 1. The drum 10 is mounted on the pivot 17 and the tube 18 has a slot 20 through which the string is passed.
