Abstract

191,555. Dover, H. W. Nov. 19, 1921. Hand-wheels.-Consists in providing a steering or other hand-wheel with a celluloid or like cover. ing formed with a groove running in spiral fashion therearound at a pitch corresponding substantially with the width of a finger. The groove may be formed by first winding around the rim of the wheel a packing strip b of textile or like material. metal, celluloid, &c. of plano-convex cross section as shown in Fig. 2, and then applying an endless covering band c of celluloid, exonite or the like by stretching it over the rim and scarf jointing the contracted edges. Alternatively the covering may be wound in spiral fashion as described in Specification 18148/06. In this form the covering strip may be of a cross-section to dispense with a packing strip or it may be grooved to accommodate a rectangular or other packing strip b as shown in Fig. 3, the edges of the covering strip d being tapered or feathered and one edge re-bated to allow different overlaps at the inner and outer peripheries of the rim.
