Abstract

Water, supplying.-In a rotary liquid or gaseous fuel furnace for reducing ores or melting metals, the material is heated by a reducing-flame, into which is introduced a spray of water at or about the point where the flame enters the furnace. In the rotary furnace shown in Fig. 1, a reducing- flame is produced by passing the flame from the oil burner a<1> through the chamber a<2>, where it is supplied with air. Water is introduced into the flame from one or more atomizing-devices such as f. The water is dissociated, the oxygen being consumed and the hydrogen acting as a reducing- agent.
