Abstract

Butt joints; overlap joints with longitudinal pressure and with yielding outer pipe.-In a coupling for two sections of hose-pipe, each section 1, 2, Fig. 1, is provided with a coupling- device comprising a conical ferrule 3 adapted to be inserted into the end of a section, a sleeve 9 screwing on to the ferrule and adapted to clamp the hose on to the tapering portion 4, Fig. 7, of the ferrule, and a conducting-tube 19 which is secured to the ferrule preferably by bending its inner end 21 over the reduced extremity 7 of the tapering portion 4. Each conducting-tube 19 is centred by means of a head 12 adapted to screw into the ferrule 3 and having a tubular portion 14 embracing the oonducting-tube. Each head 12 is secured to the ferrule by means of tongues 16 engaging slots 17 in a contracted portion 5 of the ferrule, and is preferably provided with seatings 23 to receive projections 22 on the corresponding conducting-tube in order to prevent rotation of this tube. The conducting-tubes 19 are flanged at their ends 24 and are preferably connected by means of an externally threaded sleeve 25 on one tube engaging with an internally threaded union 28 on the other tube. The sleeve 25 is preferably keyed to the conducting- tube to prevent rotation of the sleeve, and a washer 30 may be inserted between the flanges 24 of the conducting-tubes.
