Abstract

13,659. Marks, E. C. R., [Amalgamated Machinery Corporation]. Sept. 25. Lathes. - The headstock, tailstock, and bed are cast integral, with recesses for bearing- bushes which are secured, after alinement, by molten metal. The bushes mounted in this way are those 13, Fig. 3, for the spindle, 18 for the tailstock spindle, 59 for the feed-screw, and those 36 in lugs 37 on the bed for receiving guide - bars 35, Fig. 1, for the bushes 34, Fig. 4, of the saddle, which is further bushed at 39, Fig. 5, to receive guide-rods 38 for the crossslide, which is bushed at 41, Fig. 6, to engage them. The feed-screw is driven by reversely rotating loose pulleys driving through a friction clutch 60 controlled at 65. The tailstock spindle is prevented from rotating by a rack engaging a groove in the bushes and co-operating with a pinion on the spindle of a handwheel 26 for quick adjustment. Fine adjustment is effected by a screw 29 in a pivoted yoke 28. Clamping-screws 32 engage a flat on the spindle. Machine framings.-The invention is stated to be applicable to other metal-working machines.
