Abstract

161,803. Thomas, R. A., and Thomas, W. March 8, 1920. Turning; tools and tool-holders.-A lathe for trimming a block of face powder &c. 9, comprises a bed-plate 1 carrying a bearing 4 for the workcarrying shaft 6, and a bearing 5 for a reciprocated tool-holder 12. The tool 13 is of arc or other shape, and is fed to the work by means of a hand-lever 17, pivoted to the tool-holder 12, and to a link 15 pivoted to lugs 16 on the bearing 5. The work is mounted in a chuck 8 secured to a disc 7 on the shaft 6. The shaft carries a wheel 10, turned by a handle 11, or by a friction disc, mounted on a vertical shaft, which is driven by an electric or other motor by a beltdriven pulley, loose on the shaft, and engaging it by a friction clutch. According to the Provisional Specification, the wheel 10 may be driven directly by a belt from a foot or other motor.
