Stays.-Relates to holders for doors and casement windows of the kind in which a slide, mounted on the door or the window frame and connected by a link or stay to the door frame or the wall or the window, is provided with a screw which is tightened to hold the door or the window. According to the invention, the slide 3 is provided with a plate 11 engaging a guide 1, and a spring 10 is arranged between the plate and an adjusting-screw 8. The slide may be formed with channels 4, Fig. 3, engaging ribs 5 on the guide; or, as shown in Fig. 8, the slide and the guide may be tubular. The guide may be secured to the door and the slide connected by a link to the door frame; or the guide may be fixed horizontally or vertically to the window frame, the slide being connected by a link to the window. As shown in Fig. 8, the tubular slide 3 works on the vertical tubular guide 1 and is connected by a link 12 to a swivel 25 pivoted to a bracket 26 on the window 27. For the purpose of drawing the window up against the frame, the swivel may be formed with a finger 29, Figs. 10 and 11, adapted to enter a fixed slotted bracket 31 when the window is closed, the bracket being provided with a tightening-screw 34 formed with a coned end which can engage an incline 32 on the finger. The linger fits over a ledge 30 on the bracket 31. Operating doors by springs. In the arrangement, described above, of a tubular slide 3 mounted on a tubular guide on the door, a coiled spring for closing the door may be arranged in the guide, the spring being secured at one end to the guide and at the other to the plate 11 in the slide. The screw 8 is used to adjust the speed of closing.
