Abstract

10,546. Hayward, W. July 20. Hooks, safety.-Safety belts for aviators &c. are provided with fastenings of the kind that comprise a loop m secured to one end of the belt band adapted to be held by a catch or lever f pivoted at g to a plate a attached to the other end of the belt, and a locking-member k pivoted at l to the plate a and adapted to hold down the lever f against the action of a spring. A cross-bar j on the member k engages a notch in the lever f, the end of which is rounded to facilitate passage of the bar j. The fastening is released instantaneously by pulling a cord q attached to the member k. The gripped part of the loop m rests against lugs c on the plate a, and fixed collars o on the loop m prevent lateral movement thereof.
