Abstract
10,221. Briscoe, I. M., and Briscoe, C. July 14. Crutches.-In o r d e r that a crutch may be lengthened at either or both ends, it is made of two or more tubular sections surrounding one or two extension rods, which may be moved axially by nuts between each pair of sections. Tubular sections 20, 21, Fig. 5, are joined by a collar 8 and surround a screwed spindle 25, supporting an armrest 28 and working through a nut 9 between the sections. A fixed pin 37 passes through a slot in the spindle 25, which is thus moved axially when the nut is rotated, apertures 4 being provided in the collar 9 for this purpose, as shown in Fig. 1. This Figure also shows the application of the invention to an extensible leg 10, the distance between the handle 18 and arm-rest 15 being adjustable by means of a series of holes in the bars 11. In another form having a screw-adjusted extension at both ends, the handle projects from the crutch, instead of being in a housing 24 as shown in Fig. 5. A rubber tip 36 is secured by means of a screw.
