Abstract

7292. Bastin, F. May 14. Attaching to chairs &c.-An adjustable holder for attaching umbrellas, sunshades, &c. to chairs, seats, posts, walls, cycles, cars, boats, &c. comprises pivoted gripping-jaws 7, 8, Fig. 1, provided with a screw-threaded shank 6 for angular adjustment in a bracket 1, which is secured to a chair &c. by means of a clamping- screw 4. The shank 6 is clamped in the adjusted position by means of a wing-nut 16 and a washer 15, and is provided with a shoulder 12 to bear against the bracket and a collar 13, Fig. 2, to fit the hole in the bracket; the collar and hole may be star-shaped, polygonal, or otherwise shaped to interlock. The jaws 7, 8 are closed by means of a bolt 10 and a wing-nut 11. Additional adjustment about another axis may be provided by mounting the gripping-jaws on a separate arm connected to the bracket by a ball-and-socket joint and clamp, or by a simple socket and clamp.
