Abstract

6998. Morgan, P. B. May 10. Charges, levelling.-In a gas-producer, a levelling-bar rests on the surface of the fuel bed and levels the charge during relative movement between the bar and the fuel bed. The bar X is carried by arms V, W secured to a divided shaft supported in bearings p, q on the fixed cover of the producer. The shaft bar and arms are hollow for the circulation of water, and the whole levelling-device can be removed, when desired, through the opening o, which is normally closed by a cover n. A weight z adjustably secured to a lever arm y on the supporting-shaft is provided to vary the pressure of the levelling-bar on the fuel bed. The arm y is free to move between stops 1 adjustable on a sector 2. The portion c of the shell of the producer containing the charge can be rotated by a pinion e, and a tight joint with the fixed cover portion is made by the water seal k. As shown in Fig. 2, the levelling-bar is arranged approximately radially to the body of the producer.
