Abstract

6607. Ertuck, F. May 3. Starting and stopping; brakes, arrangement of. -An automatic gramophone brake comprises a spring-pressed plunger retained out of contact with the turntable rim by a cam-surface on a lever engaging a roller carried by the plunger, the lever being rocked and the plunger released by the movement of the tone-arm. The free end of a twoarmed lever 1, pivoted on a vertical axis 2 beneath the turntable, is engaged by a vertical pin 7 on the tone-arm 8 when the needle reaches the spiral terminal portion 28 of the sound-groove. The other end of the lever 1 has a pin 24 engaging a slot in a cam-lever 20 pivoted on a pin 22 to a bracket 12. The cam-surface of the lever engages a roller 19 carried on a pin 18 depending from a spring-controlled plunger 9, and during the playing of a record, the cam compresses the spring 15 and retains the brake block 10 out of action. When the needle reaches the curved groove 28, the lever 1 is rocked by the tone-arm and the cam-portion of the lever 20 allows the plunger 9 to move inwards to apply the brake to the turntable 5. The plunger 9 is slidably mounted in a sleeve 11 and has a shoulder 14 for the engagement of the spring 15. A knob 25 enables the brake to be applied by hand.
