Abstract
6318. Torrance, J. R., Torrance, H. N., and Torrance & Sons. April 28. Drying-floors.-In drying floors for treating ochre, oxides, ores, paints and colours, vegetable products, &c., of the type in which a series of flanged plate sections rest side by side in a network of channels so that steam &c. may be circulated beneath them, the flanges are cut away except at the corners, where they rest in junction-pieces provided at the crossings of the channels, and resting on dwarf walls, the whole being made steam-tight by caulking &c. Each section may be made of cast metal, and its flange, cut away except at the corners, may slope outwardly, as shown. The corners of the flanges stand in the central spaces d of the junction-pieces, which are kept in place by lugs e cemented into the brickwork. The troughs f are laid in the junction-pieces, lead wire &c. g, Fig. 8, making a steam-tight junction. Bituminous composition is placed in the troughs, and the floor plates laid therein. Steam is admitted by a pipe at one end of the floor, holes being left in the walls to allow circulation.
