Referring to lligs. l, 2 and 3, which show iny improvements as applied to a building employing structural iron 'worlt with con crete floors, 20, 2l and 22 represent the posts, beains und girders of the structural iron work and what is shown is only by way of illustration and inay lvary according to the design of the building.
2 is the concrete floor structure having the lloor surface 3 and the lower layer 5 which may be reinforced by expanded or weven metal indicated at lo near the lower part and which would constitute the ceiling of the floor below. At one or more places, across the licor structure is av drainage conduit- 7 whose lower part 7a is preferably inclined to drain the fluid accumulations to waste drain pipes 11 and l2 leading to the sewer. The `draiinvge conduits 7 extend downwardly preferably below the level of the bottoni part 5 of the flooring, as clearly indicated in Fig. Q, and inay also open upward as at 8 to the floor level The upper edges of the openings 8 to the conduits are provided with longitudinal Z-shaped irons forming grooves in which removable floor plates l() are fitted. lily reinovii'ig the said plates l0, access is had to the interior oi the conduit for cleaning purposes when necessary. These drainage passages /l are preferably arranged on a slight incline, as shown, so that the flow by grav ity is insured with .discharge into the conduit. To prevent any escape of water or moisture downward frein the drainage passages to the ceiling portion 5 of the floor,

In Fig. 1, moreover, it will be observed that where the structural iron lgirder 21 would block a continuation of the drainage conduit 7, the said conduit may be dividedwith the incline such that the liuid contents in the two sections would drain toward the girder and adapted to be drained ottl by the drainage pipes 11 which ,communicate with the common drain pipe 12.
Thedrainage passages 4 are arranged conveniently close to permitan aperture to be formed almost anywhere through the floor 2 for drainage into one or more or' the drainage passages, as shown at the upper right hand portion of Fig. 2, wherein an aperture is provided at 17 and through which a drainage pipe 18, leading from'the tanksl or vats or other source, may be extended. Similar openings may be made wherever the apparatus employed in the room may necessitate and in this manner permit immediate discharge of waste fluids .such as occurs in bleaching and dyeing establislnnents and others where waste fluids in quantity must begotten rid of.
It will be manifest that where immediate connection may be made with a drainage passage Within the floor structure that the general equipment in the room may be greatly simplified and, furthermore, that the necessity ot supporting from the ceiling of the tioor below ot numerous drain pipes may be entirely avoided so that not only is the room above the loor clear ot objectionable,
pipingadjacent to the floor, but similarly, the room below the floor may bc equally clear ot piping and suspension means adjacent to its ceiling.
Reierriuenew lo Figs. 1- and 5, the construction here shown correspomls in general particulars to that embodied in Figs. l. 2 and 3, but the improvements are shown iu connection with an all-concrete building, the presence of the iron structural work is omitted and in this case the conduits 7 may be continuous, so that only one drainage outlet 11 will be necessary for each conduit ol a reasonable length. Otherwise, the general features of construction are the same in respect to the drainage passages in the floor structure and their method ot communication with the conduits.

It will now be apparent that lV have devised a novel and useful construction which embodies the tentures of advantage enumerated as desirable, and while l have in thc present instance shown and described the preferred embodiment thcreot which has been found in practice lo `give satistartor)v and reliable results, it is to be understood that I do not restrict n'lvself lo the details. as the same are susceptible of modiiicution in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope oi the invention.
