Abstract

6026. Harris, J., and Thomas, D. H. April 22. Sulphuric acid. - The upper ends of the vertical pillars 1, Fig. 1, of the framework supporting a sulphuric acid chamber are secured to a central ring 16 by radial bars 10, and optionally by additional tension bars 17. The bars are secured directly to the pillars or to a ring surrounding them. The ring 16 may accommodate the pipe or flue for the chamber gases. The curtain of the chamber is suspended from the horizontal bars 2 of the framework by hooks 4, Fig. 4, secured by leaden straps 5, and the hooks may take on to the bars directly, or they may be suspended on hooks 6 carried by the bars. The walls are held away from the bars 2 by blocks 7 forced between them, and locked by passing through the hooks; if these hooks are not employed, bars are secured across the hooks 4 to hold the blocks. The upper edge of the curtain may be suspended in a similar manner, or it may be bolted directly to an horizontal bar. The rod 9 is supported from the bars 10 by hooks pivotally secured by leaden straps.
