Abstract

3549. Peck, W. March 5. Periscopes.-Relates to a trench periscope of the telescopic type having a wide and brilliantly illuminated field of view, and more particularly to the arrangement of the lenses and to means for preventing tarnishing &c. of the mirrors by preventing access of the atmospheric air. The objective consists of two achromatic lenses A, A' placed at right-angles to one another, the upper mirror C being placed between them in an hermeticallysealed chamber H. The lower mirror O is enclosed in an hermetically-sealed chamber R formed by a glass disk V, the eyepiece lens S, and the support X of the mirror. A secondary compound lens consisting of two separate achromatic lenses J, K is placed midway between the focal planes of the object-glass and the eyepiece.
