Abstract
2834. Lamoreaux, W. F., and Renwick, C. W. Feb. 22. Sulphur.-In the recovery of sulphur from furnace gases &c., by passing them through hot coke, the temperature is maintained above 1000‹ C. by passing electric current through the coke. The shaft furnace shown has electrodes F held in porcelain tubes E<1>, a hopper E for the charge, a gas inlet C below the grate, and an outlet D. A nearly quantitative yield may be obtained by keeping the gases in contact with the coke for five seconds at a temperature of 1300‹ C. Specifications 2,993/65 and 29,030/12 are referred to.
