Abstract

2475. Appert, R. Chevallier-. Feb. 16. Portable spirit stoves.-A field cooker comprises a cylinder A for supporting a tin B of preserved food while it is being heated by a spirit lamp D. It is formed with air-admitting notches a at its lower end, and near its upper edge supporting-lugs a<1> are formed by slitting the metal and bending the parts inwards. The cylinder A is about the same height as the tin B, which may be packed inside it. The upper end of the cylinder A is then covered by a lid C, Fig. 4, part of which is formed of perforated metal or wire gauze so that it may be used as a strainer in a drinking-cup E. In a modification, Fig. 5, a spirit lamp G is packed upon tongues H, and enclosed by a lid I. In use, the lamp G is placed on a support at the base of the cylinder A, and a utensil &c. upon the lugs H. Air enters and leaves by the apertures F', F.
