Abstract

1945. Holter, A. Feb. 6. Seals.-A button-fastener, which may also be used for connecting two pieces of fabric without the use of buttons, comprises a pointed barbed staple A, Figs. 5 and 13, which is passed through the fabric with its barbed points C fitting into the holes D of a button E. The ends of a second staple B also fit into the holes D, those ends being split to receive the barbed ends C and having turned-back portions G, which prevent the staple A from being withdrawn. The staple A is provided with several barbs, one or more being inserted into the ends of the staple B, according to the thickness of the fabric. In a modification, Fig. 14, the ends of the staple B are hollow and have inwardly and upwardly projecting lips H to engage the barbs C. In another form, Fig. 15, the staple A has yielding barbs C which expand into openings L in the sides of the other staples. In a further form, Fig. 16, the receiving-staple has yielding legs which snap over the barbs of the staple A when in position. As shown in Fig. 17, the staple A may be provided with a flat base M round its barbed legs, whereby the fabric is less exposed to wear. A pair of four-pointed staples A, B may be used instead of two pairs of two-pointed staples for attaching a button.
