Abstract
1134. Wade, H., [Leeson, J. R.]. Jan. 23. Thread-guides.-The traverse guide of a winding-machine, particularly a machine for winding magnet or other coils for electrical purposes, is provided with means for automatically applying a resistance to the movement of the guide away from the winding-spindle, and a less resistance to the movement of the guide towards the spindle. The wire &c. w is led over guidepulleys g<3>, g<2> to the coil C. The guide-pulleys are arranged and supported as described in Specification 8935/14. At the end of the rod H, on which the guide slides, is an arm K to which is attached a disk L. An arm M is arranged beside the disk L loose on the rod H, and a spring-controlled brake band O is carried by the arm and passes round the disk. A rod N carried at the upper end of the arm M is embraced by a hook g<5> on the guide support g. Any movement of the guide away from the spindle B causes a braking action by the band 0 on the disk L, but movement in the other direction reduces the tension on the spring S and the friction between the band and the disk.
