Boxes made from special blanks; fittings, internal.-A box for holding electric lamps &c. comprises a band of paper &c. creased in some such way as is indicated at Fig. 1, so as to be capable of being assembled into an open-sided structure as shown in Fig. 5, the lamp &c. being maintained in position by the engagement of its cap and pip respectively with apertures 16, 15 formed in the parts 10, 12 of the strips; the part 12 forms a sort of stool spaced inwards from the lower end of the structure, on which the lamp is supported. The ends of the strip forming the structure are secured together by stitching or glueing or by means of a detachable flap-and-slot arrangement. The lamp or like device being in position as described, the structure is then contracted so that the engaging part or parts bear upon the lamp more tightly; this is effected by sliding on to the structure a second rectangular tube consisting of a band or strip cut and scored as shown in Fig. 2 and having its ends pasted or otherwise secured together. This strip, as shown, has locking - tongues 31, 62, which engage in slots 32, 33 in the first blank and serve to keep the band in position. In the construction shown, only the upper engaging part 16 is affected by the construction, but both parts may be so arranged. In place of a single strip applied to the middle, two contracting- strips may be employed, one applied to each end of the container. In a modified construction, the two parts are formed from a single strip of material, the contracting-strip being formed as an extension of the first blank and provided with ears adapted to take into slots in the same to effect the contraction after the main blank has been assembled and the lamp inserted. Another construction of cap has, in addition, to the rectangular tubular structure, a fourth part covering the end of the first blank.
