Abstract

22,595. Joy, H. W. Nov. 16. Kinematograph apparatus.-In the production of animated colour pictures by the persistence-ofvision method, the recurring series of colour components are taken in groups in such a manner that the exposures of the individual components of each group follow on as rapidly as possible, and a larger interval of time intervenes between the groups, and in projecting the positive film, means are provided to compensate for the different colour-persistence values of different colours. In taking the negative when two colours are used, a regular film-feed is used and a taking-filter as shown in Fig. 1. The masking interval A between the two exposures of each pair of pictures is as short as possible. The other shift interval is overmasked. This method of taking the pictures avoids colour fringing effects. For the projection of a two colour film thus taken, a filter such as is shown in Fig. 2 is used. The gap F lessens the projection through the blue-green filter and operates to equalize the colour-persistence of the blue-green colour with that of the red-orange. Corresponding filters are also described for a three-colour film.
