Abstract

21,801. Powley & Sons, R., and Powley, M. Oct. 30. Bottles, jars, &c., drying.-A machine for drying bottles comprises an open-ended casing a surrounding an air-heating box b, over which inverted bottles are drawn through the casing by an endless chain conveyer. Air drawn from the upper portion of the casing is delivered by the fan r to the box b and is spread by the baffle-plate e so as to be uniformly heated by the steam-pipes h before escaping through perforations in the top of the box. Angleirons q are fixed laterally to the two conveyer chains to act as pushers for crates, or to support pockets for holding individual bottles. A pair of rails p on the upper surface of the box form runners for the crates. The apparatus is fitted with receiving and delivery tables u, v respectively. A pair of plain pulleys is mounted on the driving- shaft k in line with the rails p to assist in transferring the crates from the conveyer to the delivery table.
