Gun cartridges.-Consists in arranging at the forward end of the explosive charge a layer or wad of ammonium carbonate or carbamate or other like substance, preferably impregnated with paraffin, vaseline, petroleum jelly, or other oily substance, to cool and lubricate the gun barrel. A further quantity of such materials may also be placed in other parts of the cartridge. In the form shown in Fig. 1, an annular wad D of ammonium carbonate is arranged around the front section C of the explosive charge; the explosive material is enclosed in a casing E of gun-cotton or celluloid. and the ammonium carbonate in a casing F of fabric impregnated with paraffin or vaseline.
