Abstract
20,583. Powell, B. F. S. Baden-. Oct. 6. Collapsible boats. - Folding boats formed of multiply material are constructed with strips or battens 2, 3 projecting over the edges of the boards forming the boat, so as to prevent the entrance of water between the laminntions. The hinges consist of canvas strips 4 secured between the battens 5, 7, 8 and the sides and bottom 1, 6, Fig. 4, also closing the edges of the boards. In a modified form of hinge, the canvas is in two pieces overlapping at the hinge joint and secured by removable battens so that the boat may be taken apart. A square stern board is pivoted at its lower end and secured to the sides by a triangular piece of canvas 14, Fig. 7, to permit collapsing. In addition, the forward portions of the sides are pivoted to a triangular plate attached to the bottom of the boat. These improvements are stated to be specially applicable to the boats described in Specification 16,661/12.
