Abstract

Conical mills; disk mills.-In a grinding-mill having rotary grinding-elements on a vertical axis between which the material flows to a central opening, a. conveyer is fitted to carry the material up over the grinder for successive treatment. Fig. 1 shows an apparatus in which a grinding-surface is formed upon the casing 31 to co-operate with a grinder 3 keyed to the shaft of a worm conveyer 5, by which the material is carried up to outlet openings 50 in the hollow shaft 40 of a grinder 4 rotating in the opposite direction. Scrapers 11 on a ring 21 act upon the body 4, which carries an inclined plough 17 to scrape down the material from the casing. Discharge is effected through a valve 26 in a passage 27. A screw 28 adjusts the pressure. Fig. 9 shows a modification in which the body 3 is dispensed with, but further grinding is obtained by employing as conveyer a split worm 33 which is adjustably expanded by a slidable square tapered shaft 34 so as to engage the inside of the hollow shaft 40 to crush the material in its passage.
