Abstract

19,790. Porter, D. Sept. 15. Rod couplings.-A device for coupling together the ends of a chain and a rod or hook &c. comprises two members 1 having their contacting faces so moulded or fashioned as to enclose, when placed together, the ordinary end link of the chain and the end of the rod or hook &c., means being provided for locking the members together. For example, grooves 3 in the members 1 are adapted to enclose a part of the end link 4 of a chain, and recesses 6 to enclose a head 7 on a hook or rod 9. The members 1 are embraced and locked together by means of a sleeve 2. Various means are described for retaining the locking-sleeve in position, including providing the notches 3, 6 with bevelled edges so that the pull of the chains, rods, &c. thereon presses the members 1 into frictional contact with the sleeves. Swivelling parts, such as the heads of the rods &c. 9, may be provided with ball bearings. According to the Provisional Specification, the device may be adapted to couple together two rods.
