Piston valves; actuating.-Relates to stop or control valves of the type comprising a packed piston or tubular member sliding in or on a tubular liner or seating, and consists mainly in applying thereto the metallic packing j<1>, j<2>, j<3> described in Specification 2 6 , 6 6 8 / 1 0 , [Class 122 (i), Engine and like cylinders &c.], 26,674/10, [Class 122(v), Stuffing-boxes &c.], or 11,480/13, [Class 122(i), Engine and like cylinders &c.], as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 5. The valves may be operated by screws or levers, or, as shown in Fig. 5, by pairs of pinions n geared together by an external rack, or lever device, or by chain gearing o', o<2>, o<3> as shown in Fig. 7, the pinions n engaging with racks m on opposite sides of the valve member j.
