Abstract

Junction boxes; insulators.-In a dividing or terminal box for sealing and connecting one or more incoming insulated cables C to outgoing uninsulated conductors G, the latter conductors are arranged to leave the box A at the sides or at the sides and front but, in no case, at either the top or the bottom. Thus, in the case of two uninsulated conductors, these would be led out at opposite sides; in the case of three uninsulated conductors, two would be led out at the sides and one from the front. The outgoing conductors where they leave the box pass through insulators comprising inner and outer parts arranged so that the outer insulator Q protects the inner insulator N and so that a new insulator mav be inserted without interfering with the connexions inside the box. The inner insulator N is cemented or otherwise fixed in a threaded disk M by which it is connected to the box A, and the outer bell-shaped insulator Q is fitted over the inner insulator and secured in position by a nut X. The conductors G are threaded at each end to receive nuts D' adapted to secure lugs L and K, the lugs L being connected to the cores of the cable C and the lugs K to conductors leading to the overhead line. Washers are interposed to keep the inner and outer insulators from contact with each other or with the securing- nuts. The box A may be filled with sealing- compound through filling-plugs Y at the top of the box, and access to the box is obtained through a door at the back. Specification 29,783/12 is referred to.
