Calcium, magnesium, and magnesium-alkali carbonates.-Raw or roasted minerals containing magnesium and calcium as carbonates or silicates are treated with a solution of alkali carbonate or bicarbonate and carbonic acid under pressure at 60-70‹ C. The liquor is filtered, calcium carbonate remaining behind, while from the solution of magnesium-alkali carbonate magnesium carbonate is precipitated by heating to 100‹ C., and the solution of alkali carbonate and the evolved carbonic acid may be used again.
